About Me

I am a PhD. Student at International Institute of Information Technology(IIIT-H) Hyderabad, India. I am pursuing my research under the guidance of Professor Kamalakar Karlapalem at Agents and Applied Robotics Group(AARG), KCIS. AARG is has been recently formed and is presently incubated under Data Science and Analytics Center, KCIS. The primary focus of the lab is on collaborative robotic systems.

Research Areas and Interests

My primary area of research is "Failure Resilience and Energy Minimization in Multi-Robot Payload Transport Systems". This essentially involves developing a cooperative multi-agent motion planning scheme to minimize total energy usage of a multi-robot system. Such a scheme is developed using Multi-Agent Scheduling and Task Allocation and Machine Learning Algorithms. I have spent about 2 years in IIIT Hyderabad and based on my research and courses taken, I can summarize my areas of interest as follows:

Failure Resilience and Energy Minimization in a Multi-Robot Payload Transport System
Working on a novel distributed control algorithm for a multi-wheel robotic platform. Each wheel with its associated motor are modeled as agents with limited sensing, battery and communication. The robot chassis has a provision to transport a payload. The control algorithm uses the concepts of multi-agent learning, task allocation and scheduling to transport the payload efficiently. The research aims to promote decentralization of multi-robot payload transport systems to achieve reduction in energy consumption and failure resilience behaviors. This work is being pursued under the guidance of Professor Kamalakar Karlapalem, IIIT Hyderabad.

Multi-Robot Motion Planning and Energy Minimization for Collaborative Payload Transport through Tight Spaces
Developed a Multi-Robot Payload Motion Planning algortithm for payload transport through highly cluttered environment and an energy minimization scheme for the same system while travelling along the planned trajectory using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithms. Extended this work to a short paper which was accepted in IEEE IROS 2016. This work is being pursued under the guidance of Suril Vijaykumar Shah, Assistant Professor, IIT Jodhpur.

Object Detection using Shape-Band Approach
The objective was to detect/match a query object in a given image. A shape band, which models an object within a band of its sketch/contour is used to define the query object. The features associated with each point on the sketch are the gradients within the width of the shape band. In the detection stage, the algorithm scans an input image at various locations and scales for good candidates.

Indexing and Retrieval of Compound Color Objects
A system for the retrieval and indexing of images of compound color objects is explored. Co-occurrence histograms of color and wavelet features is used. The images in a database are then indexed on the basis of similarity to a reference image.

Intrusion Detection for Home Automation, Intel Bangalore
Intrusion Detection System for Home Automation is a facial recognition based security system. The system setup has low power consumption and is inexpensive. It can be installed in any indoor environment. This system was developed on a low cost Embedded SoC and uses sensors and cameras to classify an individual as an intruder or non-intruder using machine learning/facial recognition algorithms.


I completed my honors project for Bachelor of Engineering as an Intern at Intel, Bangalore for 6 months, where I developed an Intrusion Detection and Alert System on a SoC for use in Home Automation Security Systems. I then worked at IIIT-Hyderabad as a Research Assistant under the guidance of Prof.Kamalakar Karlapalem in developing specifications for a multi-robot system for heavy payload transport.

My schooling till engineering was in schools and colleges of Bangalore. I pursued my Bachelor of Engineering in Telecommunications at PES Institute of Technology(now PES University) which is one of the best colleges in Bangalore. I decided to pursue research in Robotics and Artificial Intellingence after completion of B.E. I am currently in IIIT-Hyderabad pursuing Ph.D. in Computer Science.
