Stellarium on Liquid Galaxy

Liquid Galaxy is a truly immersive display setup that provides a user with a unique experience in which focus and context are both available at the same time. Such immersion becomes more and more relevant for applications involving visualization of huge environments such as Stellarium. Stellarium is very popular astronomical application used widely by astronomy enthusiasts and telescope users in order to locate, follow, study and image both near-earth and outer space objects.

How does it work ?

• Liquid Galaxy provides an immersive experience by linking a set of independent machines (with one or more displays) using Interactive Spaces in such a way that a large distributed display environment is created on all the available set of display units.
• Interactive Spaces is used to register multiple machines into the distributed system, launch the Stellarium application on all the machines and communicate among the registered machines.
• The Inter-Process Communication between Stellarium instance and Interactive Spaces on each machine is handled by ZeroMQ.
• Master Stellarium process intercepts the I/O and render settings which are communicated to the slave Stellarium processes via Interactive Spaces in real time.
• The camera view and FoV on the slave instances are updated appropriately based on the relative alignment of the slave instancecs wrt the master instance.
